MOVEMBER REVIEW: The Rise Of The Phoenix by Mason Sabre

"Cast out by his own family after a wolf’s bite infects him, a young thirteen-year-old boy is forced to roam the streets and fend for himself. In a world of Humans and Others, he belongs to neither. No longer considered Human, but nor a purebred Other, a race of powerful supernatural beings, he will be unwanted and hunted by both. Danger lurks at every turn. Young, vulnerable and afraid, he tries to come to terms with the physical changes taking place in him while at the same time trying to find a way to survive. In a menacing world filled with threats and hate, is there any hope of salvation for this orphaned fledgling?"

When I picked up this book and started reading I wasn't sure what to expect, but what I definitely didn't expect was to be so emotionally involved so quickly! The way Mason writes just has your heart breaking for this poor kid before you even know anything about him!

I really liked the way you are gradually given pieces of information, the fact you don't know the boys name at all is a great addition, you don't even know what he did at the start and yet you know he's a good kid. I really did feel myself falling for him, not in a sexual way, he's only 13 geez. But he's so strong and yet so scared. You can't not feel something for him.

I completely understood how Mason describes the whole Humans vs Others situation, and even though it's not real, you can tell that if it was it would happen exactly how Mason has written it. You will hate humans, that's how convincing this story is!

Even though this is just a short read, the amount of emotion packed into it will have you reading the next one straight away!
