REVIEW: Already His by Sandy Raven

So I finally finished this book and to be honest I found it hard to get into to. I'm not adverse to historical romance but I find all the rules to be rather annoying and the fact that they always wind up getting pregnant because of the lack of contraceptives back then, so the story lines are kind of predictable at times.

I found the women to be good characters but it all comes across as a massive game really, they have to make the men jealous to gain attention. A lot of it seemed quite childish and I would have loved to blame the main character, Elise, for it but the Grandmother is just as bad! They need to dance with other men and dress themselves up to gain attention.

Maybe it's just the feminist in me who dislikes it, but it is a time when the women have to obey the men and not embarrass anybody, which can be quite restricting to a story or it can lead to the plot revolving around it in a mystery of seedy characters out to steal a woman's honour. It's all about honour! I didn't mind the book once I finally got into it, but I don't think I'll be reaching for the next one soon.

This was the second book in the series, the first was about Ren and Lia, this one is about Rens' sister and best friend, Elise and Michael. It is well written but if you like the fiery spontaneous passion, this is held back because it is a historical romance but working within the limits it does well. I reallllly hate the cover though. The cover on all of them makes me cringe! I think I may stick with the modern day romances.
