Review: Long Time Coming by Edie Claire
I started reading this book not really having a clue what it was about and at first it took me a while to get into it. It's about a 35 year old woman who suffers a big loss when she was 17, her best friend, Jenny, dies in a car crash and as a result Joy shuts down entirely and refuses to remember anything about the time of the crash, instead choosing to blame the driver and Jenny's then boyfriend, Jeff. Joy moves back to her home town and into Jenny's old house, where events lead her to confront the past and attempt to remember what she's forgotten.
The story is very well written and very well told. It has the right amount of predictable and twists that you want to keep reading to reach the happy ever after you know is due. The way everything happens isn't as predictable. I assumed that Joy would end up even worse after she got her memories back, but she does have help overcoming everything.
Jeff is a great character, it's told in such a way that I didn't really hate him as Joy did, i was routing for him to be the good guy. He was a great leading man. Joy tries to be as strong as she can but you really are just egging her on all the way to remember things, you want to know as much as she does!
There is nothing raunchy about this book, so it's safe to read in public! But the book is very sweet even though there are elements in it that scared even me when I pictured it. There are supernatural elements to this book, but it doesn't take the mick. It's very believable and doesn't leave you questioning it. It is a very heart warming book, the only annoying thing I found was that Joy didn't go home sooner! She could have been happy all along!! (Some raunchy bits would have been good too but the book is good anyway!)
I would thoroughly recommend this read and it is currently free on Amazon! Happy days!
