Review: "The Game Plan," by R L Mathewson

"Spend the next 40 years in prison or break her lease early? Normally she’d be able to say that this one was a no-brainer, but things have definitely changed since she was forced to move in across the hall from Danny Bradford. A lot of things…… She wanted to get through one day, just ONE day without Danny Bradford doing something to test the limits to her control, but with that damn smile of his and his habit of leaving her contemplating manslaughter, she didn’t see that happening anytime soon. He loved his family, but some days……. It was too much, but that was okay, because his small neighbor living across the hallway provided him with endless hours of entertainment. Not on purpose of course, but did it really matter as long she made him smile?"

R L Mathewson fast became my favourite author. Her Neighbour from Hell and Pyte/Sentinal series are so hot and the plots are brilliant too! After reading the previous Neighbour from Hell books, I could not wait for this to be released and I think it might be one of the only books I've ever pre-ordered!

The previous NFH book was set far back in the past, looking at the history of the Bradford family and, whilst it was a good book, I was glad to get back to the present. The best thing about the Bradfords is that they are all very attractive and their food obsession make for hilarious story lines! (They remind me a bit of Joey from Friends - "Joey doesn't share food!!!").

This book is obviously no exception to that. Danny is the perfect terrible neighbour! There are some bits that if you think about it too much you end up asking yourself 'really?'. For example, the bit where Zoe's cooking is practically described as nuclear waste...great excuse to get the pair in an intimate situation though! Jodi's reaction to any medication give a nice way of allowing her to express a bit more and give a fair bit of entertainment (neighbour from hell role reversal!).

The bit I didn't really go along with was where Jodi gets such bad carpet burn on her bum that she needs an overly embarrassing situation of having Danny's Doctor Dad go and see her, only for him to give her medication that makes her go mad again. If I were in that situation there is no way in hell I'd let the man I just had sex with's Dad come in and examine his Son's handy work! But it does provide some humour.

As usual there's a lot of action going on. The typical Bradford teasing, family gatherings, food stealing and amazing sex scenes, R L Mathewson does what she does best. The books do follow a typical pattern...hate each other, sexy moment, love each other, misunderstanding, fight for her, get married, happily ever after. But this is the pattern of most romance novels and the sex scenes and the love that she writes about more than makes up for it.

Trust me, by the time you finish reading you'll be wanting a Bradford of your own!
